The Lovely Bones?

Movie verse Book

“My name was Salmon, like the fish; first name, Susie. I was fourteen when I was murdered on December 6th, 1973” Susie, was a strong girl she was raped and murder by someone she knew from her neighborhood, someone she thought she could trust. The Lovely Bones Written by Alice Sebold and Directed by Peter Jackson, makes you wonder if everyone’s heaven is the same? Because the way it is portrayed for Susie was a magical place where all her dreams were coming true, but why was she not ready to let go of her family? There was no way she was ever going to go back; she just wanted to tell her parents she was okay. Susie wanted to show her dad she was happy. The movie directed by Peter Jackson and the novel written by Alice Sebold were two very different things, every character suited there parts well, but the over all filmed was not as enjoyed as much as it was expected to be.

The novel written by Sebold made Susie’s murder much more descriptive verses, Jackson film. The way Susie seemed like she was about to get away from her attacker, who was Mr.Harvey; her neighbor that everyone seemed to trust. But Susie did not get away in the film it seemed as if she was free and running but it was her spirit running away, her body was still back with Mr.Harvey and was never discovered. Sebold did a much better job with the way she described everything that was happening with Susie and Mr.Harvey, but the film did not. It was one of the most important scenes in the film and it wasn’t portrayed the right way. Susie’s heaven was so magical it was everything she ever dreamed of because she could do whatever she wanted and she was safe.

Susie and Her family were so strong with everything they went through and it was hard to get over her death but her family became stronger from it, yes her mother did up and leave her family when they needed her most but she was grieving over the loss of her daughter, "When people asked mom if she had any kids, she said she only had two" says Susie when she was talking about her past life and her parents. If Susie's father and Lindsey gave up on trying to find out who killed her they never would of found out that Mr.Harvey did; Without Lindsey breaking into his house and finding his book of how he planned to murder Susie, his over all obession with Susie was overwhelming and very suspenseful durn the film.

The way Jackson took this book and turned it into a film was done very well but could of been done better, he did match the characters perfectly and he kept the movie very interesting, at times it was very hard to follow but it kept you very involved and made you pay close attention to the details wondering if your prediction would be right in the next scene in the film. I would give the film an overall 6.5 out of 10 because it was hard to follow at times and not what I personally expected the film to be like verse the novel.
